The Planned Giving Council of the Mid-South enjoys a very diverse membership which greatly enhances the experience for all members. Our community draws from all types of non-profit organizations and for-profit companies with an interest in creating and supporting philanthropy.

The PGC of the Mid-South is a member council of the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners (formerly PPP). The Board of Directors are nominated and elected from member agencies on an annual basis.

Dan H. Murrell, CFRE

President
A graduate of Millsaps College and of the University of Memphis, Dan left a 13-year teaching career in 1997 for a career in nonprofit development. He has been Director of Planned Giving at the University of Memphis since 2008. Previously, Dan served as Director of Development for the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis and as Director of Development and Community Relations for Trezevant Manor. Dan has been active in PPP since 1997, as well as AFP on both the local and national level. He served as the President of AFP in Memphis, and received the chapter’s Crystal Award as Fundraising Executive of the Year. He is also an active board member or volunteer for several local nonprofit organizations.

Joey Maurizi

Vice-President
Joey serves as Development Specialist for the Methodist Healthcare Foundation. He works closely with his peers and community leaders to raise funds and awareness for their Hospice and Palliative Care programs. He also oversees their planned giving program, working to identify and steward members of their Elliott Society. Prior to joining the foundation, Joey served as a Regional Planned Giving Director for The Salvation Army. Joey is a veteran, having served in the United States Navy from 2004-2008 aboard the USS Fitzgerald. He received his BPS in Nonprofit Administration from the University of Memphis and also received his Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Memphis.

Carlisle Dale

Carlisle Dale is an attorney with Wiseman Bray PLLC. He graduated from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in 2013. He concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning and post-death administration, as well as asset protection planning and charitable planned giving. He counsels clients with respect to a wide range of issues relating to wills and trusts, estate planning, trust administration, asset protection, charitable giving, business succession and taxes. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business and Organizational Management while playing baseball at Maryville College.
Brienne Jackson

Brienne Jackson

Brienne is a CFP® and currently serves as a Director of Financial Planning at Legacy Wealth Management, where she has been since 2008. Brienne works closely with her clients to help them achieve their goals by having a solid financial plan; this is done by reviewing clients retirement benefits, estate documents, insurance needs, charitable plan, education funding goals, etc. Brienne earned her Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and her Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Memphis.

Sheryl Alexander

Past President
Sheryl, a Memphis native, earned her undergraduate degree at UT Knoxville and a Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Memphis. She earned a second Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Minnesota and completed an MBA at Cleveland State University. Early in her career, she filled key roles in Jewish organizations and special needs education institutions in major U.S. cities like Memphis, Dallas, and Minneapolis. Later, she spent thirteen years with the American Red Cross in Cleveland, Washington, D.C., and Palo Alto, CA. Subsequently she assumed the position of President and CEO of The Community Foundation Serving Riverside and San Bernardino Counties in southern California. Later, she was Executive Director of the Foundation at Foothill-De Anza Community College District in Silicon Valley and Director of Major and Planned Giving and Dixon Gallery and Gardens. Sheryl has been the Director of Financial Resource Development at Memphis Jewish Community Partners (Federation & Foundation) since August, 2016.
Adams Jr., C. Michael

Michael Adams

C. Michael Adams, Jr., CPA, is an attorney practicing primarily in the areas of estate planning, taxation, wills and trusts, and probate administration. He is certified as an Estate Planning Specialist and routinely advises clients on matters of estate tax and income tax planning, charitable giving, asset protection, and probate and trust administration. He is a frequent lecturer on these topics to legal, accounting and financial professionals in the greater Memphis area and has been featured in The Memphis Business Journal and The Memphis Daily News discussing estate planning. Mr. Adams is a member of the Memphis Bar Association Board of Governors, is president elect of the Estate Law Specialist Board, on the board of the Memphis Allied Professionals Conference, and is the Memphis Alumni Chapter President of Spring Hill College. He has been named a Fellow of the Memphis Bar Foundation, is a member of both the Memphis and Tennessee Bar Associations, the Estate Planning Council of Memphis, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and the Tennessee Society of CPA’s. He is a member of Christ United Methodist Church and is an avid runner who enjoys long trail runs with his two rescue dogs.
Andrew Ellis

Andrew Ellis

Andrew Ellis is a Philanthropic Advisor in Gift Planning for ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St Jude Children's Research Hospital, where he focuses on the Danny Thomas/St. Jude Society. During his seventeen years there, ALSAC has grown into one of America's favorite charities as announced by the Chronicle of Philanthropy 2018. His professional mission is to: “assist individuals and families in fulfilling their philanthropic goals and dreams.” He joined PGCGM in 2001. A Pensacola, Florida, native, Andrew graduated from Lipscomb University; Walden University (M.S. in Nonprofit Management and Leadership); and served as President of the Student Association, Harding University School of Theology. His professional experiences include Non-Profits; For-Profits impacting Non-Profits; and For-Profits. Andrew’s professional memberships have included the Society of Certified Senior Advisors (“Specialists in Aging”) and Memphis South Rotary International and was recognized as a “Paul Harris Fellow.”
David Cremerius

David Cremerius

David Cremerius is a native Memphian who graduated Summa Cum Laude from Christian Brothers University, majoring in Accounting. In January 2014 he joined Cremerius Wealth Management, a local wealth management firm established twenty years ago, as a financial advisor. Prior to that, David spent twelve years in gift planning and nonprofit development with the Catholic Diocese of Memphis. David, a CPA, also previously worked for PriceWaterhouse Coopers and Delta Life and Annuity. He enjoys working with families on financial and charitable decisions. He is currently a board member for the Planned Giving Council of Greater Memphis and is active at St. Louis Catholic Church.
Frank Horrell

Mr. Frank B. Horrell, CPA, CFP®

Frank B. Horrell has been Director of Professional Advisor Development for the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis since January 2008. Mr. Horrell graduated from the University of South Florida with a B.A. in Business Administration – Accounting and has worked in both public and private accounting. He has been in the financial service industry since 1984 and was a wealth management advisor for Merrill Lynch, prior to joining the Community Foundation. He is responsible for marketing the Foundation’s gift planning, investment management and charitable fund options to professional advisors, including attorneys, accountants, financial advisors, and insurance professionals. Mr. Horrell also serves as a planned giving resource to donors, professional advisors and nonprofit fund advisors. He previously held the Series 7, 31, 63, 65 securities licenses and Life, Variable Life and Variable Annuity Insurance Licenses. He is a member of various professional organizations including the Tennessee Society of CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs, the Financial Planning Association of Greater Memphis and the Estate Planning Council of Memphis.
Lindsay Jones

She counsels clients with respect to a wide range of issues relating to wills and trusts, estate planning, trust administration, asset protection, charitable giving, business succession and taxes. Lindsay graduated from the University of Memphis School of Law with honors with a joint law degree and Masters of Business Administration. While in law school, she received the Herbert Herff Trustees Scholarship and the Dean's Award for Best Appellate Brief. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration summa cum laude from the University of Memphis where she was a member of the University of Memphis Pom Squad.
